Earn It, Keep It, Save It

savingsSafety net services are only one part of the solution, the other is a more proactive approach to helping you stabilize your family and achieve your personal goals.

Earn It! Keep It! Save It!

Free tax preparation services – we offer FREE, year-round tax prep by IRS-trained volunteer tax preparers. If you earned less than $49,000 in 2010 and still need your taxes done, the PRC can prepare and e-file them for free. Trained tax prepares can also file Schedule A (Itemized Deductions) and Schedule CEZ or C (for business owners with no inventory, a net profit, and/or expenses up to $10,000). Tax preparation services are by appointment only during the off-season.

My Money & Me / Mi Dinero y Yo financial support groups

English and Spanish monthly financial support groups to learn about your relationship with money, develop a personal spending plan, share money saving tips, and learn how to clean up (or build) your credit. Changing spending habits is hard and takes time, so with the additional support of the PRC, we can make these changes together. Refreshments are provided, as well as supervision of children under 12 during the group as when requested. Groups are open to anyone wanting to make a personal financial change.

Financial coaching

One-on-one support to help you develop sound money management habits and help you develop a plan to save money, decrease debt, and build wealth over time. As a coach, we are your sounding board, accountability partner, motivator, and success partner, among others. We use the Earned Asset Resource Network (EARN) Wealthcare model of financial coaching.

Payday lending project

The City of Pacifica has the highest number of payday lenders per capita than any other city in San Mateo County. As a result, the City Council approved a 2 year moratorium on new payday lenders in Pacifica. Payday lenders charge $45 to borrow $255, or nearly 470% interest, for a 2 week loan. We can offer services and support to avoid the use of a payday loan, and are also launching a pilot project to help Pacificans pay off payday loans and save money so they can borrow from themselves and avoid these outrageous fees. Only requirement for the pilot project…you have a payday loan now and want to get out from under it.
